It’s a constant battle isn’t it? No matter how many tricks and home remedies you try, figuring out how to limit breakouts can be very complex.

And believe us, girl, we know that pimples can be a blow to your self-esteem and leave you feeling less than your glowy self.

When it comes to your skincare, it’s important to know what products to use to help limit breakouts. At RAWW, we want you to feel your best every day so we’ve done the hard work for you and carefully created the best skincare routine for breakout and acne-prone skin that will care for your skin, using only the most skin-loving and ultra-soothing ingredients!

Our Skincare Tips For Breakout-Prone Skin

The truth is, many of us have experienced breakouts this year because of ‘maskne’, aka pimples caused by wearing a face mask for long periods of time. Wearing a mask can cause buildup of oil, dead skin, bacteria and dirt. It can also trap humidity from your breathing or sweat, which makes you break out more than usual. To help you deal with maskne, we recommend checking out our 5-step skincare routine for maskne breakouts.

But maskne aside, there are some tips you can implement to limit breakouts, even if you tend to have acne-prone skin. For example, be careful about what you’re eating and drinking. It’s not only what we put on our skin that can cause breakouts, it’s what we put inside our bodies too. Making sure you stay super hydrated and eat a balanced diet can help prevent pimples and help you get your glow back.

And keep your hands off your face! Dirt and sweat from your hands gets onto your skin and can cause breakouts. Ensuring you wash your pillowcase regularly will also help to keep those nasties at bay while you sleep.

That being said, we’re not here to preach that drinking enough water and not touching your face will cure all of your skin concerns. We know it’s way more complex than that! The good news is, your choice of skincare can also have a huge influence on your skin. Choosing appropriate skincare for acne-prone skin will help limit breakouts, make sure your skin remains hydrated without looking oily, and will help you get your glow back!

We’ve put together an easy 5-step routine for you that will help your skin thrive:

Our Easy Skincare Routine For Breakout-Prone Skin

1.Cleanse

When choosing a cleanser for breakout-prone skin, steer clear of the 'miracle workers' and stick to a gentle face cleanser that simply dissolves oil, dirt and bacteria without stripping your skin's protective barrier. Cleansing is an essential step in your skincare routine for oily acne-prone skin. By removing the bacteria, you limit the risks of a breakout from the impurities and clogged pores in your skin.

For a gentle face cleanser suitable for sensitive skin, try the Purify-ME Gentle Cleanser. It has a calming, bouncy gel-like consistency that gently purifies and soothes the skin. It’s formulated with natural ingredients including Coconut Water and Aloe Vera, and features Lime Oil to help cleanse pores and treat blemishes.
Top Tip: If you're a heavy makeup wearer, you may want to opt for the trusty double-cleanse. Start with the Super Hydrate-ME Cleansing Oil to break down makeup, and then follow with the Purify-ME Gentle Cleanser to remove the last traces.

2. Tone

Toning prepares pores to absorb all the goodness you're about to give them. It aids in removing excess oil, fighting blemishes and hydrating skin. It’s a super important step as it helps maximise the effectiveness of your overall routine.

For a gentle and hydrating toner, try the Balance-ME Hydrating Mist Toner. This Green tea mist toner is infused with Witch Hazel to help control oil production, and (you guessed it!) Green Tea, to soothe redness. The combination of these two skin-loving ingredients can help soothe the skin, prevent pimples, and will prepare your skin for the rest of the skincare routine.

3.Treat

Now is the time to add a targeted serum in your routine. What’s the best serum for acne-prone skin? We recommend an exfoliating serum that also hydrates the skin. This will ensure that your skin is nourished, while gently exfoliating the skin and removing dead skin cells that could be blocking pores and contributing to breakouts.

For the best results, we recommended going for a chemical exfoliant to clear pores without further irritating your skin. Stay away from abrasive and physical exfoliants - these shouldn’t be used during a breakout as it can aggravate already inflamed skin, creating breeding grounds for spot-causing bacteria causing even more breakouts.

If you’re looking for the best hydrating serum for acne-prone skin, try our Light Beam Radiance Serum. This serum is suitable for acne-prone skin, is gentle enough for daily use and ideal for distressed skin. It’s supercharged with clinically-proven natural fruit acids for renewed, glowing skin, and it’s made with our Tropical Fruit Harvest™ bioactive complex and an Alpha Hydroxy Acid-rich combination of Mango, Papaya and Pineapple to give your skin all of the superpowers it needs to fight blemishes!

4. Moisturise

Breakout-prone skin, even if it's oily, needs moisture. Without moisture, your oil glands produce excessive sebum (oil), leading to clogged pores and shiny/oily skin. Using a good moisturiser regularly helps restore and protect your skin.

For a moisturiser suitable for dry breakout-prone skin, try the Activate-ME Face Moisturiser. It has a lightweight formula and is super hydrating, so it won’t feel like it’s weighing your skin down or making it greasy. We use Lime oil for its antibacterial properties and WildBerry Harvest™ to keep your skin super hydrated all day. You can use it morning and night for dewy, glowy skin!

5. SPF

Always, ALWAYS finish with an SPF to protect your skin. Not only is it essential when paired with a chemical exfoliant (like the exfoliating serum we recommended above), SPF is also a must for us breakout-prone ladies as UV exposure can make our little acne scars and marks much worse and stick around for longer.

Wear SPF under your favourite foundation or go for an all-in-one solution with our Super-Camo Foundation with SPF15. As well as protecting your skin, it will also give you light coverage which can help seamlessly cover up existing blemishes or scars and even out your skin tone.
