We all want to wake up feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the day - but sometimes, it’s easier said than done!
To catch some shut-eye, try these simple tips to improve your sleep. The best bit? They’re all natural.
1. Wind Down With A Nighttime Skincare Routine
Wipe away the day and treat your skincare routine like a form of self-care - because that’s exactly what it is! Take your time, and start by deeply cleansing your skin using the Purify-ME Gentle Cleanser. If you wear makeup, do a double-cleanse for a squeaky clean complexion. Then, apply a thin layer of the Smooth-ME Fine Line Serum, and massage it in using circular motions. It’s amazing how this step revitalises your skin! You could even use a jade roller or guasha tool if you have one. To finish, pop on a few drops of the Recover-ME Face Oil, and lock in all that goodness with the Activate-ME Face Moisturiser. By applying your skincare slowly and carefully, you’re already signalling to your mind that it’s almost time for bed.
2. Prepare Your Bedroom
For a good night’s sleep, your room should be cool, dark and quiet. To turn your room into a sleep sanctuary, dim the lights, close the blinds, and turn off any tech devices - like your phone and computer. These gadgets emit blue light, which can mess with your brain’s sleep signals. They can also strain your eyes, which is the last thing you want when you’re trying to sleep. The key is to switch off your mind, so stick to reading, meditating or stretching.
About an hour before you tuck yourself in, change into comfy, breathable pyjamas. This does two things: it sends a message to the brain that it can unwind, and it helps to regulate your body temperature when you sleep. If you have an eye mask, put that on your bedside table so it’s ready to go.
3. Soak In An Epsom Salt Bath
After dinner, treat yourself to an Epsom salt bath and feel the tension of the day melt away. Made from magnesium sulfate, Epsom salts work to relax your muscles and nervous system. They also loosen stiff joints - so they’re great if you’ve been travelling, sitting down all day, or working out. For best results, add 1-2 cups of the salts to a warm water bath, and soak for around 30 minutes. And don’t worry - you won’t prune up! The salts will leave you with super-soft skin.
Top Tip: To boost your chances of a good night’s sleep, sip on some chamomile tea while you’re in the bath!
4. Harness The Power Of Aromatherapy
Essential oils don’t just smell divine - they also have therapeutic effects on the mind and body, so make the most of them! Choose a nighttime essential oil blend that promotes sleep and calm, like our Zen Time Essential Oil Blend or Lavender Pure Essential Oil. They’re easy to use: Simply put a few drops in a diffuser or pop a few drops on your pillow and you’ll be float away to dreamland in no time.
5. Stop Drinking Caffeine After Midday
Yep - your sleep prep starts at lunchtime! Did you know that caffeine stays in your system for up to 12 hours? To improve your sleep, the best time to drink coffee is before midday. After that, avoid all caffeinated beverages, including black tea, green tea and matcha. You can swap any future cups with delicious alternatives like dandelion coffee, herbal tea or decaffeinated chai tea.
Top Tip: If you really struggle with sleep, steer clear of spicy food, heavy meals and alcohol at night - they can also affect your sleep.
